Scholastic is running two strategies at once. Children's Book Group and the new Entertainment segment are converting owned IP, including Dog Man, Hunger Games, and Goosebumps, into a multi-format business, while Education Solutions is still contracting, down 28% in Q1 FY2026 before moderating to negative 2% by Q3. Book Fairs, the 9 Story Media Group integration, and a $481 million real estate sale-leaseback are each on track or complete, proof management can execute discrete capital moves on schedule.
One thing worth flagging: it is not yet proven whether Education Solutions is genuinely stabilizing or merely decelerating on its way to a permanent decline. Scholastic now also faces its first vertically integrated Book Fairs rival in Literati-Trustbridge at the same moment legacy Education products keep losing ground to evidence-based specialists like Amplify, and short interest has climbed from 5.6% to 9.6% even as one covering analyst holds an Outperform rating. This Dossier lays out what would resolve each question, and why neither is settled by the public record alone.
Sources and Methods
Dossiers are built from primary documents: SEC filings, earnings call and investor day transcripts, management presentations, press releases, and trade press. We also work the channels where product and operating problems surface before they reach an earnings call, including App Store, Google Play, and Trustpilot reviews, and structured sentiment research on Reddit Answers. Equity analyst commentary is used to map where the sell side disagrees and is treated as opinion, not evidence.
The Intelligence Council is editorially independent. No company reviews a Dossier before publication.
This is our initiating coverage, including Q2 2026 results. Updates to post quarterly.
