Florida's State Board of Education approved rule 6A-14.0719 on September 16, requiring each of the system's 28 colleges to adopt policies governing the use and limitations of AI. The rule does not certify products or create a state vendor list. Its effect is likely to show up in how colleges review, configure, and approve AI already embedded in the products they buy.

Policy requirements now reach product configuration
Approved use cases become the unit of review
Control evidence will shape the sales cycle

The rule requires colleges to define approved AI instructional and business tools, approved uses, limits on student use in graded work, and compliance with FERPA, copyright, privacy, and intellectual property requirements.

It can still decide those features should remain disabled until the institution can show they fit its board-approved policy.
That gives campus offices a stronger basis to slow, condition, or limit AI activation even when the underlying product has already cleared procurement. Legal, information security, academic affairs, procurement, and faculty governance may all have a reason to review how a feature is used before it goes live.
